What Is a Paint Tinting Machine?

A paint tinting machine (dispenser) is a computer-controlled system that doses the recipe-specified amount of colorant paste into white or base paint, so the requested color is prepared at the point of sale. Instead of stocking thousands of ready-made colors, a dealer works with a few base paints and one set of colorants, and produces the customer’s color on the spot.

This only works if dosing is repeatable. The same recipe must give the same result on different days and in different cans; otherwise you cannot match the color when the customer returns. That is why MS Color MasterTint works to 0.03 ml dosing accuracy and doses each pigment automatically from its own canister.

What Does a Paint Tinting System Consist Of?

A paint tinting system is not a single device; it consists of three parts working together: the dispenser that doses the color, the mixer that makes the can homogeneous, and the software that manages color recipes. At MS Color all three are developed by the same engineering team: the MasterTint tinting system handles dosing, MasterMix and GyroMix handle mixing, and the cloud software manages recipes and the dealer network.

The right tinting system for a dealer is determined by the consistency of the products sold and by package size. Where small and medium cans are the norm, a dispenser and shaker pair is enough; where dense, textured products are sold in large buckets, a gyroscopic mixer joins the system as well. Paint tinting systems are therefore not one standard installation but a whole configured around the point of sale’s product range.

Dosing Is Not Enough: Why Mixing Is a Separate Job

Once colorant has been added, the package has to become homogeneous. In an unmixed can the color is not identical throughout, and the difference shows during application. Depending on product consistency and package size, this is handled by two different machines.

Small and medium volume cans use high-frequency shaking, which is what MS Color MasterMix does. Dense, viscous and textured products in large buckets need gyroscopic mixing that rotates the package on two separate axes, which is what MS Color GyroMix was developed for. Together, the three machines form a paint dealer’s complete color preparation line.

Who Uses These Machines?

Paint dealers and in-store tinting points, hardware store color sections, paint production and filling facilities, industrial coating manufacturers, construction-chemical companies and professional color preparation centers. Applications range from decorative and industrial paints to wood preservatives, varnishes, plasters and heavily pigmented products.

Why MS Color?

The mechanical design, electronic control and embedded software are developed by the same engineering team. This makes it easier to respond quickly to field needs and to adapt the product to different paint systems. Local manufacturing means short lead times, accessible spare parts and fast service response.

Cloud software is included with MasterTint. Device usage, color recipes and your dealer network are managed from a single web panel, with no third-party application and no monthly subscription. Dosing continues uninterrupted when there is no internet connection, and data syncs automatically once connectivity returns.
